I went to my dentist earlier this year and had the usual X-rays. He told me that the bone that holds my teeth in was receding. He showed me the pictures. He said that if I floss regularly I can help prevent bone loss. I always hated flossing because it hurt my gums and it was a pain.

Already a couple of my teeth are loose. I always get food trapped in between them since the gums are worn away. I now floss regularly.

My dentist also told me that gum disease can get in the blood system and cause heart disease. This is another reason why I floss regularly.

This past month I floss maybe twice. I bruish regularly. Low and behold 2 cavvities. So now I have 3 cavities in my lifetime. The problem according to my dentist is that the plaque reacts with the energy drinks I drink and create like this "acid concoction". So I am now working on flossing regularly. I also bought this cool new product calls, "crest night effects" where you paste this gel on your teeth and it supposedly whitens your teeth.

BDiz..

if you floss everyday...your gums will toughen up and stop bleeding after about a week.

I remember pointing that out to my dad while we were at the store and he said "only suckers buy those." How do those things save you any time?

Not really a time thing for me - more just a convenience. I find it much easier to floss the teeth further back. I suppose it costs more, probably a bad reflection on me, but I don't consider the long term costs. I just floss more now than before so maybe the cost will be offset vs. dental bills and toothaches.

Call me a liar. My fiance flosses after every meal. 3x a day. My sister is a dental assistant and claims she flosses 3x a day but I only have her word.

The worse flossin is when after you'd had eatin' some beef jerky. It's gross.

I thought it was just me.

I forgot to add that my dentist's assistant suggested I get a water pik. It's one of those things that shoots water in your mouth. You wouldn't believe how much food it gets out between your teeth but it's a mess until you get to know how to use it.

Some days recently I've flossed after every meal. Since I have two teeth with gaps, food gets stuck there almost every meal. Sometimes I just continue to floss the rest after getting food unstuck in those 2 places.
